Carnival Hunt beginner guide

Carnival Hunt is a $19.99 EA 5v1 first-person asymmetrical horror game on Steam from Beer Night Studio and Crytivo (app 1181550, EA launch July 23, 2026). Five wind-up bunnies climb a procedural carnival across 4 floors and 32 modular rooms; one Carnival Monster hunts them before they reach the Grand Door.

This Carnival Hunt beginner guide explains the win condition, wind-up keys, Life Gears, floor objectives, and first-hour habits so you survive instead of feeding the hunter. Pair it with the wind-up system, bunnies guide, and maps pages. Verified July 23, 2026 · Steam · Discord.

Bunny vs Carnival Monster in Carnival Hunt

Every match is five bunnies versus one monster. Bunnies are wind-up puppets managing charge, keys, inventory, and teamwork. The monster drains bunny keys, extends its own charge, and shuts down objectives. Roles are assigned at lobby — new players should queue bunny first to learn the carnival loop before trying killers.

What bunnies do first

Spread across the floor to find gears, keys, and objective machines. Wind teammates before charge hits zero, complete the floor objective to unlock vertical routes, and drop ropes for shortcuts once you reach higher floors. Hoarding keys solo loses matches — the team shares the climb.

What the monster punishes

Objective noise alerts the hunter with unique symbols per task. Grouped bunnies winding each other in open rooms are easy catches. Learn the Magician deception kit early — imposters, hat trick grabs, and invisibility punish sloppy callouts.

Wind-up keys, charge, and Life Gears

Wind-up is the spine of Carnival Hunt. Your charge (red circle, bottom-left HUD) drains while running, jumping, and interacting. Empty charge stops movement until a wind-up key restores it. Keys are the most contested resource on every floor.

Key uses every bunny must know

Keys charge other bunnies, open doors and shortcuts, power Jack the merchant, and activate floor exit mechanisms. Each use creates noise the monster can hear — save keys for objectives instead of panic self-winds in the open. You can self-wind at Jack by spending candies when no teammate is nearby.

Life Gears and death

The three small gears on your HUD are Life Gears. Lose one when thrown, caged, launched from the cannon, or falling from height. If the monster holds you with zero Life Gears, the match ends for you. Teammates can free caged bunnies; caged players lose a gear but can slowly self-escape at heavy charge cost.

Monster key economy (read once)

Killers consume bunny keys to refill their charge. When you die, the monster may loot your red 2×2 pocket for keys and items. Distribute loot across the team so one catch does not bankrupt the floor push.

Floor objectives and reaching the Grand Door

Each carnival floor has interactive attractions that notify the hunter when used. Finish the floor objective before rushing upstairs — a half-open route with no gear backup stalls the whole squad.

Grand Door escape

The Grand Door sits on the top floor and requires two gears to unlock. At least two bunnies must escape through the exit door for a full team win. After 30 minutes, if two bunnies have already escaped, the Lost Hat quest can spawn — find it with the radar for a bonus solo escape route.

Spread objectives, not bodies

Loud tools — balloons, trampolines, unicycle — ping the monster. Split roles: one bunny winds, one watches for hunter audio, one crafts at Jack. If the monster closes your shortcut mechanism, bunnies can reopen it — killers can also shut gates to deny routes.

Scavenged items and Jack the merchant

Bunnies are not helpless. Loot world spawns and craft at Jack by winding him with a key and paying candies. Inventory is limited — the red 2×2 pocket is what monsters loot first.

Procedural carnival layout

Layouts change every match — 32 modular rooms across 4 floors, but a main hall with merry-go-round always anchors navigation. Two of four wing sections randomize, so callouts beat memorized paths.

Landmarks to ping

Use the ping wheel plus proximity chat for doors, high striker, cannon, ferris wheel, and roller coaster. Drop ropes once upstairs — returning for stranded teammates wins more than solo climbing.

Ticketman traps

Ticketman NPCs highlight bunnies in range for the hunter when activated. Treat them like proximity turrets — smoke carrots hide you from both Ticketman and line-of-sight.

Play dead, panic, and proximity voice

Stealth is a team sport in Carnival Hunt. Playing dead lets you mimic corpses. Panic after throws grants speed and instant escape from re-grabs if the hunter catches you again during panic.

Play dead basics

Drop near existing corpse piles so the monster wastes charge on inspections. Killers can force a scream check — coordinate fakes with teammates on voice. Full mind-game routes: play dead guide.

Proximity voice rules

Proximity voice (mic recommended). Whisper at low volume — the Magician hears nearby chatter the same way bunnies hear his footsteps. Pings also leak at short range. Solo queue with text pings if you cannot use a mic.

Panic and rabbit holes

After a throw, panic boosts speed and lets you slip through rabbit holes to random lower-floor tiles. If grabbed again while panicking, the hunter auto-releases after an easy skill check — use the window to disengage, not to hero wind in the open.

Ability gears before you queue

Before entering matchmaking, bunnies equip ability gears — active powers with heavy cooldowns. Examples from EA tutorials: High Jump for vertical shortcuts, Dash for dodging grabs. Monsters pick their own gear upgrades on the same system.
